National Day of Prayer

May 6, 2010

NorthBay observed the National Day of Prayer with a student-led assembly attended by parents and teachers. Students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade participated by praying for each branch of our state and national governments and our military. Before the assembly, the parents enjoyed a time of food and fellowship provided by the NorthBay teachers and administrators for Parent Appreciation Day. Parents also had time to browse the Scholastic Book Fair.

Helicopter Missionaries

April 23, 2010

Where can you learn about missions, translating the Bible into other languages, and how to fly a helicopter all in one place?  NorthBay's chapel of course!  Chapel began with Mr. Mower of JAARS (Jungle Aviation And Radio Service) sharing his experiences as a missionary in the Philippines.  While he was talking, the students were listening for a JAARS helicopter which was coming to land at school about 50 feet from where they were sitting!  We watched as it landed, bringing Mr. Dan Miller, also of JAARS.  The students learned about the many people groups in the world that still do not have the Bible translated and written in their language.  The missionaries also explained how the helicopters are used in missions around the world to carry people into areas that would take days to get to by roads or by boat.  The helicopters have helped many people receive medical care, food and water supplies, and other life essentials that they would not have been able to receive.

Spirit Week

March 15, 2010

NorthBay's Student Government sponsored our first-ever Spirit Week! On Tuesday, it was Knight and Princess day. The students were very creative and really put their personalities in their costumes. On Thursday, it was Switcheroo Day. Students could dress like teachers and teachers could dress like students! Then on Friday, it was School Color Day and students dressed in navy and grey to show their NorthBay spirit!

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!

December 10, 2009

NorthBay's upper-grade Drama class presented "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!" to parents, grandparents and their fellow students. This multi-act play is a hilarious look at a small-town church's annual Christmas production and what happens when a family from "the wrong side of the tracks" decides to participate.

Thanksgiving Feast

November 21, 2009

Saturday, November 21, was the perfect day for a picnic! But, this was no ordinary picnic. It was the annual NorthBay Thanksgiving Feast. The entire community gathered for wonderful food, the annual Bake-Off competition, games and fellowship. Families laughed together as both parents and students participated in the Turkey Strut competition as well as a Pie Eating contest after lunch. Many more stayed late into the afternoon to toss a football or participate in the traditional dodgeball game.

Field Day

November 13, 2009

Students had been preparing for weeks to participate in NorthBay's annual Field Day competition. November 13 was the first Field Day held on the grounds of our new location. Students participated in team activities such as the relay race and tug-o-war. They also competed in individual events such as the 50-yard dash, the softball throw, and the standing long jump. Many parents attended to cheer the students to victory!

Operation Christmas Child

November 13, 2009

Field Day was the official collection day for Operation Christmas Child. Many families participated by filling a shoe box with age-appropriate gift items for boys and girls around the world. Because of the generosity of NorthBay families, 27 children around the globe will be blessed at Christmas and will hear the message of the hope of Christ. Students get wacky and tacky!

October 29, 2009

The October 29 Dress-Down Day sponsored by the NorthBay Student Government was unlike any other! Students were encouraged to show their creative (and questionable!) fashion sense for Wacky Tacky Day.

All Dress-Down Days are fundraisers for the Student Government, so students paid for the privilege to come to school out of dress code. But instead of the usual jeans and t-shirts, on this day there were cowboy hats, clown suits, stripes mixed with plaids, a haz-mat suit, and some kind of dinosaur hat. Students who participated enjoyed seeing just how "Tacky" they could get!

NCA teacher receives special honor

October 22, 2009

When first grade teacher Mrs. Sharon Karn was called to the student lunchroom on October 22, and was told it was urgent, she wondered, "What did my class do and who is hurt?" Once there, she saw all of the students, several parents, school administrators, and even the entire church staff awaiting her arrival. But, there was no trouble! They were all there to honor Mrs. Karn's designation by Gulf Coast Family Newspaper as their Teacher of the Month for November 2009.

Nominated by the Wolfe family, Mrs. Karn was photographed with all of the elementary students and the students received a pizza party compliments of the newspaper. If you would like to read the article about Mrs. Karn, go to www.gulfcoastfamily.org and scroll the bottom of the page and click on "Teacher of the Month" in the Education section. Congratulations, Mrs. Karn!

First Day of School

Students enter a new year in a new home

September 8, 2009

September 8, 2009, may have looked like any other date on the calendar. But, to the families of NorthBay, it represented a whole new beginning for our school. Seventy students entered our new home at Harborside Christian Church to begin NorthBay's eleventh year. There was an air of celebration as teachers, students and parents came in the front doors greeted by their Student Government leaders and festive balloons.

Countless hours were invested over the summer to move NorthBay from our previous location to Safety Harbor. The job really started many months before for our School Board as they met with City of Safety Harbor officials, licensing boards, and Harborside leadership. As they prayerfully moved forward, the exciting reality of holding school in Harborside's beautiful facitly became a reality.
